We have a slower night in the NBA tonight with only four games on the schedule. This is a small slate but there are plenty of opportunities to be had. Let’s take a look at today’s NBA odds and find the winning Banker and 2 team parlay.
Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic
The Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic have played three times this season, with the Nets winning two of the three meetings. The Orlando Magic will look to even the season series tonight. The Magic have been playing better since the All-Star break. The Magic had a -7.5 net rating up until the All-Star break. Since the All-Star break, the Magic have a net rating of +.3. The Magic have been officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 116–114 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday night. The Magic lost the game, but once again they covered the NBA odds.
The Magic have plenty of young players to build around. Wendell Carter had 23 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to the 76ers. Carter is a young, solid frontcourt player. Carter is playing next to Franz Wagner, who has been one of the best rookies in the NBA this season. Wagner has excellent ability and was a great draft pick for the Magic. The Magic have a trio of talented guards in Jalen Suggs, Markelle Fultz, and Cole Anthony. Anthony is out of action right now, but both Suggs and Fultz will get significant playing time tonight.
The Brooklyn Nets have Kevin Durant back and they are making a push for the playoffs. They have won 3 in a row, and since this is a road game, they will have the services of Kyrie Irving available. The Nets are coming off of a 110–107 victory over the Knicks, where Kevin Durant scored 53 points. Between Irving and Durant, we seem to see a fantastic offensive performance almost every night.
As good as the Nets have been, I like the Orlando Magic to keep it close here. Brooklyn will receive no extra credit in the standings for covering the spread. If Brooklyn does get ahead by a lot, they might choose to rest their best players. Yet even in a blowout, the Magic will continue to let their young players get playing time. Today’s Banker is the Orlando Magic +9.5.
Detroit Pistons vs Miami Heat
The Detroit Pistons are another team that is way better since the All-Star break. The Pistons are 7–27 on the road this year but are 2-2 on the road since the All-Star break. The Pistons had a net rating of -10.2 before the All-Star break. The Pistons have a net rating of -2 after the All-Star break. The rise of the Pistons’ performance directly correlates to having Jerami Grant back in the lineup and Cade Cunningham’s continued development as a premier player.
The Miami Heat are red hot. They are 13-4 in their last 17 games. The Heat are happy to have Victor Oladipo back in the lineup. Oladipo was a question mark as far as his ability to produce on a playoff-caliber team after his multiple injuries. So far, Oladipo looks like he’s ready to make a positive contribution. Miami has one of the best defenses in the NBA and is currently in first place in the Eastern Conference.
Because of the records and their overall season performances, the Miami Heat are heavily favored by NBA odds. In what is the case once again, I think they are too heavily favored against a team that has been playing better since the All-Star break. The Detroit Pistons will fight hard and keep this game close. The first half of today’s 2 team parlay is the Detroit Pistons +13.5.
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Indiana Pacers
The Memphis Grizzlies have been playing excellent team basketball. They are coming together to make a strong playoff push. The Indiana Pacers are in full-on rebuilding mode, and missing multiple playmakers to help them score. The Pacers have plenty of non-NBA starting-caliber play in their frontcourt. It’s evident in the ability of opposing teams to score in the paint.
Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant is playing MVP caliber basketball. Morant leads one of the most balanced offensive teams in the NBA. With Morant directing the offense, the Grizzlies can score against even the best defenses. But they’ll be facing a less than average defense tonight.
I like the Memphis Grizzlies to cover, even on the road against the Pacers. Memphis is one of the best teams in the league and the Pacers are one of the worst. The Pacers are already looking forward to the next season, while the Grizzlies are concentrating on getting ready for the playoffs. The second half of the 2 team parlay is the Memphis Grizzlies -7.5.
