We went 4-1 on Bankers last week. Pretty good, but I’d love to get one more 5-0 week before the season ends. To do that of course, I’ll have to cash today’s Banker and 2 team parlay.
Atlanta Hawks vs Detroit Pistons
The Pistons are silently playing good basketball to end the season. The Pistons have won 2 in a row, most recently beating Toronto and Indiana. The Pistons have won 5 of their last 7 games. During the win streak, Cade Cunningham is averaging 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Detroit also got a nice boost in the reserve minutes from trade deadline addition Marvin Bagley. Bagley is averaging 13 points and 5 assists in just 22 minutes so far in his 5 games played with the Pistons. So things are looking up for the Detroit Pistons, but unfortunately, things are also looking up for their opponent tonight the Atlanta Hawks.
The Atlanta Hawks have also won 2 games in a row and 5 of their last 7. They most recently beat the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. Trae Young has led the way for the Hawks averaging 34 points and 9.5 assists during the last 4 games. The Hawks were happy to welcome John Collins back into the lineup on Friday. Collins only played 25 minutes but had 9 points and 6 rebounds. The Hawks have beaten the Pistons once this season, 122-104 in October.
People expect the Atlanta Hawks to play well but I think the Detroit Pistons are still flying under the radar as evidenced by the steep amount of NBA odds. I have liked playing the Pistons at home this season, but now that they’re playing even better, it makes this an even easier wager to place. 7.5 points is too much to give to a Detroit team that is finally coming together, is healthy, and is continuing to show improvement in the development of their young players. Tonight’s Banker is the Detroit Pistons +7.5.
Los Angeles Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs
If anything points to how poorly this Los Angeles Lakers roster was constructed around LeBron James, it’s the fact that James needed to score 56 points in order to secure an 8-point win over a Golden State team that has now lost eight of their last 10 games. The Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets have been case studies this season on why jettisoning depth for a superstar isn’t always the best idea. Both teams put an enormous amount of pressure on their superstars to perform at an elite level night in and night out, and they constantly lose the bench minutes. In the case of the Lakers, one injury derails their opportunities. With Anthony Davis currently out, the Lakers are experiencing that.
Tonight the Lakers have a fairly winnable game against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs have lost four games in a row. Yet the Spurs played the whole month of February on the road, and are finally settling in at home after the most grueling road trip on the NBA schedule. While it’s weird to think coming off one win is a let-down spot, it’s also hard to imagine that James will be able to produce these types of performances to carry the Lakers every night. At a certain point he’s going to need help from his team, and going against a balanced team such as the Spurs will definitely be a struggle. Regardless of the Laker’s place in the standings, teams always get up to play the Lakers due to their high-profile status in the league. I’m going back to fading the Lakers tonight. The first half of our 2 team parlay is the San Antonio Spurs -2.
New York Knicks vs Sacramento Kings
The New York Knicks are coming off a 23 point win over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Knicks were slumping before they turned things around in Los Angeles last night. The win over the Clippers snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Knicks. The Knicks defeated the Sacramento Kings 116-96 in their previous meeting in New York in January.
The Kings are coming off another disappointing loss. What else is new? The Kings lost another heartbreaker 114-113. Kings leader De’Aaron Fox had 44 points in the loss. The Kings were in control in the first half but let the game slip away from them. Fortunately for the Kings and the fans tonight, the Kings play much better at home.
The Kings are getting a great spot to face the New York Knicks tonight. Not only should they be eager to get the bad taste out of their mouths from the last performance, but the Knicks are also tired after last night’s game and in the midst of a grueling road trip. I expect the Kings to get back on track tonight against one of the few teams that is less talented than they are. The second half of today’s 2 team parlay is Sacramento Kings -3.5.
