The NBA has a short slate tonight highlighting three intriguing matchups. Only one Eastern Conference team is playing so tonight will have more implications for fans of the Western Conference. Regardless, let’s find a way to get back on the winning track with an advantage Banker and a winning 2 team parlay.
Denver Nuggets vs San Antonio Spurs
The depleted Nuggets are facing a tough task after coming off an overtime victory in New Orleans last night. After the extended game, they travel to San Antonio to take on a Spurs team that has many young players developing properly under Gregg Popovich. The Nuggets are already thin due to multiple injuries at the guard position. The Nuggets will have the best player on the floor in Nikola Jokic. Yet I think this is a situational spot that is too much for them to overcome. A tired Nuggets team will be trying to take on a young San Antonio team that has more depth and at this point in the season due to health. There really is not much to this handicap besides the fact that such a tough spot for the Nuggets.
Matchup wise the Nuggets are a better team and they will have the Spurs searching for an answer for Jokic. Jakob Poetl is a fine defensive center, but even the top centers cannot slow down the reigning MVP. The Spurs will need to take advantage of their depth at guard. They will need to play a quick pace against a team they could be bordering on exhaustion by the fourth quarter.
Sometimes teams and analysts refer to a schedule loss and I believe that the Nuggets have one here. With more depth, or if they had played in a game last night where they won easily and didn’t have to extend their starters so many minutes, they might be better suited to win. Here in this situation, I believe the fatigue will be too much to overcome against the young, quick, and hungry team. I hate taking the worse team in the matchup, but tonight it is the right thing to do. Today’s Banker is the San Antonio Spurs ML
Utah Jazz vs Philadelphia 76ers
Both teams will be tired in this one and I believe the Jazz superior depth and continuity in their system will win the day. Gobert vs. Embiid is an intriguing matchup but even if Embiid is able to dominate Gobert, the supporting cast of the Jazz could propel the Jazz to victory. If Embiid doesn’t have a monster night, it will be tough for this Philly team to keep pace with a team that is constructed similarly just with a little less talent.
The Jazz have more depth, are more secure in their roles and have the better coach. While the Jazz were once considered to be weaker on the road, this season they have upped their game with the number one seed in the West in their sights. I expect the Jazz to get a big win in a prime-time game that everyone will be watching. The first half of the two-team parlay is the Utah Jazz – 3
Los Angeles Lakers vs Memphis Grizzlies
The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a 15-point home win against the Celtics on Tuesday night. The Memphis Grizzlies had a five-game winning streak snapped last night in an eight point loss to the Mavericks. The Grizzlies game against the Mavericks was a rough physical affair with multiple players getting technical fouls. Dillon Brooks got ejected and many players spoke afterwards how the game was too physical and out of control.
Memphis has been playing well and I think this is a good chance for them to get back on track. The loss last night and the way that it happened will be a boost for a team that could be tired, but at the same time should be fired up. My number says to take the Grizzlies but I’m a little hesitant to just play that blindly due to the fact that our numbers on the Lakers are so distorted because the top players have so rarely played together this year.
So we will have to throw the model projections out on this one and cap it on situation. I believe you we will see a motivated Memphis team coming against and overconfident Lakers team that has struggled with younger, quicker opponents. Memphis Grizzlies have a great chance to win outright, so the +4 points of NBA odds is a gift. The second half of the two-team parlay is the Memphis Grizzlies +4.
