Every week, Southampton’s legend Matt Le Tissier will bring you his top 3 picks of the Premier League
Leicester vs. Chelsea
The international break is over and leaders Chelsea travel to play Leicester on Saturday. Morning games are always tough to predict but we expect Chelsea to return to winning ways after the 1-1 draw with Burnley. Thomas Tuchel has already guided the Blues to the ultimate glory, winning the Champions League last season. That doesn’t mean they don’t want to replicate that, but their main objective is the domestic silverware.
Kai Havertz has been deployed as a false nine during the absence of Romelu Lukaku but former Serie A MVP is back to full training, and it seems like he will play against Leicester on Sunday. On the other side, Leicester have struggled to make it three wins in a row losing to Arsenal and being kept to a 1-1 draw by Leeds. Chelsea should have enough to return home with the three points and secure their leading position.
Pick: Chelsea to win at 1.79
Burnley vs. Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace are on fire. The victory against Man City was labeled as a lucky win but they extended their great run of form with another 2-0 win against Wolves. The fact that they stopped both City and Wolves from finding the back of the net was more impressive than the actual wins.
They lost their previous three head-to-heads against Burnley failing to contribute on the scoreboard. This should change and given their form the betting value is with them. The hosts aim to escape the red zone and they will enter this match all guns blazing. They are unbeaten in their previous three games and they pulled-off the upset just before the international break keeping leaders Chelsea to a 1-1 draw on the road.
Stats: Only one of the last nine Premier League mutual encounters saw both teams score. Burnley manager Sean Dyche has signed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2025. He is the longest-serving boss in the Premier League, having been at Turf Moor for nearly nine years.
Pick: Crystal Palace to win at 2.55
Norwich vs. Southampton
I’m not betting with the heart, but I must take the Saints here. Going with Southampton at plus money against the worst team in the league is a great take. I understand that Norwich won their first game of the season two weeks ago but let’s not forget that Brentford are a newly promoted team, and they have four defeats in a row.
The visitors won three of their last four Premier League games. Yes, short wins but they kept a clean sheet in all three. What does that tell us? Defensive consistency. Che Adams and Adam Armstrong are finally clicking in the attack. Both scored winning goals in the last games with Adams netting two goals during the international break for Scotland.
Pick: Southampton to win at 2.1
