Pep Angles – each-way @ 150/1 (151.00) & add Top 20

Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez – each-way @ 100/1 (101.00) & add Top 20

The Portugal Masters historically is one of my favourite events since I began tipping with
Tom Lewis winning at 66/1 (67.00) in 2018 while Justin Walters returned each way monies
at 125/1 (126.00) in 2019 followed by Joachim Lagergren last year at 125/1 (126.00) in 3 rd
for each-way money again.

Pep knows all the Angles on the Algarve

The 2018 event holds the clue for my first selection, Pep Angles who funnily enough was
another nice-priced winner amongst my tips that year when landing a top 20 finish at 18/1
(19.00). Since which he’s cemented his affinity for golf on the Algarve with a runner up
finish at the Open de Portugal. He followed this up with a win at the Andalusia Challenge
Cadiz which is another golfing area he has a liking for with several respectable showings at
Valderrama, one of which was early in his professional career in 2016 when he was close to
lead after 36 holes. 2021 has been on the whole a difficult year for the twenty-eight-year-
old up to the Mallorca Open two weeks ago where an impressive runner up finish
catapulted him up the ‘race to Dubai’ rankings to 135 th . This means he still needs another

tournament to reach the top 122 and regain his playing privileges for next year. That could
focus Pep Angles mind and sharpen his intensity this week and his Andalusia Challenge win
proves he can back up a big week.

Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez and Vilamoura look
perfectly matched

After many years plying his trade on the minor tours, Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez has
started to look dangerous post-Covid-19 on the European Tour. The first event back in
2020, the Austrian Open saw Rodriguez come 4 th and have a good opportunity of a shock
win. The next time Garcia Rodriguez was noticed was at last year’s Portugal Masters on
debut when he came an impressive 6 th in good company. 2021 started well for the thirty-
two-year-old Spaniard with a 4 th place finish in the Kenya Open followed quickly by 8 th at the
Tenerife Open. After which though, Garcia Rodriguez went missing it was twenty events
later he was 5 th at the Mallorca Open after a promising week at Valderrama prior. Sebastian
Garcia Rodriguez is a few places higher in the ‘Race to Dubai’ standings at 120 th which is just
inside the top 122 that’s needed to regain European Tour membership. The one thing that I
always like about Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez is his ability to go low which is a prerequisite
for most years at Vilamoura with Oliver Fisher shooting a 59 in 2018. Three tournaments
ago, Garcia Rodriguez signalled a return to form was imminent when he began the Open de
Espana with a 62 in Madrid at Club we Campo.
